contribute to the day-to-day operations of our accounting

ABOUT THE PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES In 1963 the citizens of Galveston
voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park
Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is
responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston
Island Beach Patrol (GIBP), and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The
Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT)
and beach user fees for the parks that they manage. Tourism pays
for tourism as no sales tax or property tax is collected by the Pak
Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents
with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at
least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's
advisory committees. We are on a mission to promote and support
tourism on Galveston Island in order to foster an environment that

running and highlight all Galveston has to offer! A DAY IN THE LIFE
OF A STAFF ACCOUNTANT As a Staff Accountant, you participate in a
variety of accounting functions, including purchasing, general
ledger, banking operations, accounts receivable and payable,
payroll and audit support. In this role, you help departments
across our organization create their annual budgets, providing them
with templates and historical reports. Periodically, you perform
internal audits to ensure that these budgets are adhered to and
identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A STAFF ACCOUNTANT Bachelor's degree in
accounting, business administration, or a related field and at
least two years of experience in a governmental or nonprofit entity
or associates degree in accounting, business administration, or a
related field and at least four years of experience in a
governmental or nonprofit entity Demonstrated ability to perform
basic accounting functions such as posting transactions,
reconciling accounts, using a chart of accounts, preparing or
supporting journal entries Working knowledge of GAAP fundamentals
and standard accounting workflows (month-end close processes, audit
support, etc.) Ability to follow written purchasing policies,
prepare, maintain and organize purchasing documentation, and ensure
documentation is complete for audit purposes. Computer proficiency,
especially in Excel, accounting and payroll software Strong oral
and written communication skills including the ability to
communicate clearly and professionally with staff, vendors and
external contacts Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain
a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment Class C
driver's license Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification
OR the ability to become certified after hire Previous experience
with procurement, contract negotiations, budget development,
project management, and using financial ERP systems in a government
setting would be a plus. Are you able to translate detailed
