An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher specializing in Life Skills for an elementary special education classroom serving students with diverse learning needs. This full-time, contract position runs through the end of the 2025-2026 school year and requires dedication to supporting young learners in a structured, nurturing environment. Location: Houston, TX Assignment: Houseman Elementary School Duration: Immediate start through May 26, 2026 Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM 3:00 PM (including a 30-minute lunch break) Workload: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week Classroom Size: Approximately 8-10 elementary-aged students Support: Paraprofessional assistance provided for behavioral interventions and classroom management Key Responsibilities: - Deliver individualized instruction tailored to the unique needs of students with special needs, focusing on life skills development - Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, parents, and educational teams to create effective learning plans - Implement behavioral interventions and maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to learning - Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly - Maintain compliance with district policies and state regulations Qualifications: - Valid Texas SPED EC-12 certification through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) - Experience teaching elementary-aged students with special needs, preferably in a life skills classroom - Ability to work collaboratively with a team and manage classroom behavior effectively - Completion of district-required fingerprints and drug screening prior to start This role offers a unique chance to make a meaningful impact on elementary students educational journeys by fostering independence and life skills.
