factorsPOSITION SUMMARY:The Director, Category Management creates
and enables the execution of the sales and assortment strategy for
assigned categories based on insights, analysis, and collaboration
with internal Sysco business partners. This position is responsible
for leading the category management process, direct reports within
their business unit, all internal and external cross-functional
teams, and the financial stewardship of department and business
unit goals. Key to the success of this role will be to ensure
decisions are focused on customer service excellence and Sysco's
Strategic Priorities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Category
Management and Product Development
- Lead the business growth category (i.e. Center of Plate;
Grocery, Dairy & Beverage; Produce/Canned & Non-Food; Chemicals),
category profit & loss (P&L) metrics, and continuously assess
services and offerings to stay ahead of the competition for a new
vertical.
- Leads high stake negotiations across the big vendors in a
regulated space.
- Explore and launch the business in new channels to grow the
business.
- Drive the product assortment strategy to maximize sales and new
customer acquisition.
- Leads and promotes the Partnership Growth Management Process to
supports sales and share growth while delivering leveraged gross
profit growth.
- Collects and synthesizes insights from different sources (for
example: supplier, market, NPD, etc.) to develop category
strategies while also taking appropriate action to develop a
relevant national, regional, and local assortment.
- Works cross functionally with Field Merchandising, Branding,
Marketing, E-Commerce/Tech and other teams to elevate the customer
experience and drive business performance improvement.
- Collaborates and aligns with Sourcing colleagues on the most
effective sourcing approach.
- Identify and champion the development of products for inclusion
as assortment enhancement/innovation, and support suppliers through
the process to ensure execution.
- Synthesize market trends and leads plan for go-to-market
product penetration and strategy.
- Leads PGM activity for the business center to ensure categories
remain on activation timelines.Team Management and Direct Report
Development
- Leads and develops the culture of an empowered team that is
aligned to achieving goals through cross-functional and direct
engagement.
- Leverages the Sysco career development roadmap as a guide and
coaches direct reports through their CMP and individual development
plan (IDP).
- Consistently embraces change, leads efforts to role model
change and its benefits.
- Creates an environment that welcomes regular, open two-way
communication and acts upon feedback.Financial Management and
Accountability
- Analyze weekly/monthly finance reports to appraise case sales
and gross profit performance utilizing internal and external
analytic resources to conduct deep dives.
- Determine root causes and develop action plans to mitigate
losses in share or negative trends; prepare executive
summaries.
- Product and Pricing Management
- Develops pricing strategy to drive market share and incremental
profit opportunities while remaining market relevant.
- Proactively engages with Revenue Management to identify pricing
strategies that are driving share growth; aligns and executes
measures to address pricing issues.
- Cultivates open communication with Sourcing to understand
supplier cost changes and how they can be leveraged to drive
incremental profit opportunities.Supplier Management
- Promotes and champions suppliers to subscribe to Partnership
Growth Insights to feed regular strategic planning meetings to
measure share growth performance, identify and prioritize key gaps
and execute center-led approaches for continuous improvement.
- Monitor NPD data and supplier service levels; prioritize action
plans to drive results and a differentiated response for
Sysco.
- Create an environment which fosters mutual market share growth,
innovation, greater productivity, issue resolution in alignment
with the field.
- Engage supplier broker networks for additional resources to
enable field execution and training.Digital Content
- Rich Content (certifications, PDF, coupons, recipes, videos,
offers) - leverage suppliers and lead the collection and support of
technology enabled rich content sharing.
- Obtaining product attribution within assigned business center-
create, read, update, and delete attributes of a defined attribute
group.
- Ensures all items within the assortment meet current image
standards to enable an acceptable customer digital experience.
- Collection and maintenance of free text attributes (preparation
method, mfg. date, shelf life, storage) to comply with OSD features
and benefits structure.Customer Engagement
- Proactively collect market, OpCo and customer feedback and
weave into our assortment for go to market strategies.
- Ensures the customer is considered in our decision making.
- Supports Sysco National Sales division with market guidance,
product knowledge, to qualified customer presentations.Enterprise
Support
- Supports the creation of insights-based field ready sales tools
for field activation and monitors their effectiveness.
- Works with cross-functional teams to build category alignment
and deliver on category activation timelines.
- Acts as traffic control for field feedback and communication
from and out to the USBL Sysco associates. -Education
Required:Bachelor's degree or equivalent
education/experience.Education Preferred:Master's Degree or MBA
preferred.Experience Required:8 years related experience or 5 years
of category management, product management or merchandising
experience within CPG, Retail or Foodservice industry. - Must
possess a proven track record of leading direct and/or indirect
associates.Experience Preferred:8-10 years related experience
within CPG, Retail or Foodservice industry or an equivalent
combination of education and work experience. - ABILITIES AND
